Chicago-Midwest
Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum Organization Lobbying Mayor Emanuel, Alderman Dowell, State Rep Dunkin for vacant Parkman Elementary School for new Gospel Museum
Historic Bronzeville site!!

As Chairman of National Black Wall Street Chicago and as a Board member of The 501 C3 Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum Organization, I want to report on behalf of the organization;  Gospel Museum legend and curator Rev. Dr. Stanley Keeble and on behalf elder Board member, Gospel Music Legend and founding Chairman of The Chicago Music Heritage Museum Organization the Rev Clay Evans; we are lobbying Mayor Emanuel, Alderman Pat Dowell and State Representative Ken Dunkin, Chairman Of The Legislative Black Caucus and Chairman of The State Tourism Committee; that the vacant Parkman Elementary School, located at 245 West 51st in Bronzeville; that a combination of local TIF dollars, local and state tourism dollars to transform the vacant school into a permanent home for a Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum as a major tourist attraction in Bronzeville, the home of Chicago Gospel Music and named after Gospel Music legend Rev. Clay Evans.

This proposal is in response to Mayor Emauel's public request for ideas on how to utilize the vacant schools and we submit this proposal that this vacant Chicago public school is uniquely suited to be transformed into Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum site named after the Rev. Clay Evans.  The Bronzeville site is strategically located not far from the historic church founded by the Rev. Clay Evans and it legendary role in The Civil Rights Movement, and this site is located not far from community senior housing development owned by Rev. Evans' Fellowship church, and the site would still be located in the historic Bronzeville community, which is home to Gospel music. Finally, Chicago's commitment to promoting the legacy of Gospel music can be more than an annual gospel fest, but now a historic tourist site as a Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum.  From longtime elementary school to Gospel Museum, this site can continue its role serving as an ongoing, important educational vehicle from the community.

State Rep Dunkin Will Lead Bronzeville Site Selection For A Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum

As Chairman of National Black Wall Street Chicago and as a Board member of The 501 C3 Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum Organization , I want to extend strong personal thanks on behalf of founding Gospel Museum legend and curator Rev. Dr. Stanley Keeble and on behalf elder Board member, Gospel Music Legend and founding Chairman of The Chicago Music Heritage Museum Organization the Rev Clay Evans to State Representative Ken Dunkin, Chairman Of The Legislative Black Caucus and Chairman of The State Tourism Committee for making the commitment to convene local Bronzeville leaders on finding a vacant public school in Bronzeville that a combination of TIF dollars, local and state tourism dollars to transform the school into a permanent home for a Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum as a major tourist attraction in Bronzeville, the home of Chicago Gospel Music!! Rev. Evans knows the reality that many of his former allies who were also Gospel Music legends have made their transition and he always asks if he would finally see a real museum site in his lifetime as others asked and after various site selections didnt work out; but now under the leadership on Ken Dunkin on this issue could Rev. Evans question a reality. State Representative Dunkin certainly has the capacity and relationships to convene the necessary leadership to make this happen and I have already shared this news with other allies Vance Henry, Director of The Mayors Faith Based Initiatives and Deputy Chief of Staff and all that NOW is the time for this historic "Faith Based Initiative" to become a reality. Most humbled thanks again to State Rep and Chairman Dunkin for his leadership!! And during this election year, this is also something that should have the public support of Governor Pat Quinn too!

Rev. Clay Evans is one of the last living Gospel Music legends in the Gospel Music Home of Chicago; he was the founding Chairman of the organization "Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum" along with another gospel music legend Rev. Dr. Stanley Keeble as curator,  and has been seeking to see a physical location in his lifetime of a Gospel Music Heritage Museum as a economic and tourist attraction in the Black community to permanently preserve and teach the legacy of Chicago as the home of Gospel Music.  Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has the political power to use existing TIF Funds and access other existing Tourism dollars to immediately transform one of the existing vacant Chicago Public School Buildings into a physical home for The Rev. Clay Evans Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum.
Mayor Emanuel can put this is motion in time to make the announcement in time for the legendary Rev. Clay Evans upcoming 90th Birthday in June, also Black Music Month.  During these past several years Rev. Evans has watched over a dozen of his fellow Chicago Gospel Music legends pass away with their last wish being to see a physical home for The Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum happen in their lifetimes. People like Inez Andrews, Delores Barrett-Campbell, Dr. Charles Clency, Rev. Jessy Dixon, Albertina Walker, Rev. Dr. Charles Hayes and others.
Chicago only pays tribute Chicago as home to Gospel music with the annual Chicago Gospel Music Festival so now is the right time to help Rev. Clay Evans be able to see in his lifetime a physical home for The Chicago Gospel Music Heritage Museum and one of Chicago's vacant public schools would be an excellent location.  This is something that our collective Black political, religious, civic and community leadership in Chicago should actively encourage Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to make this happen.
