As one of the twelve honorees receiving Cook County Clerk Dorothy Brown Community Treasures Award on Thursday, February 23rd, Dana Divine believes that if Chicago artists use their talents to balance the violent narrative that the city has it would offer some hope in the midst of despair.
“In my heart, I’m determined to stay positive about our communities, despite what my ears hear and what my eyes see”, remark Divine who is hosting the 3rd Annual Black Fashion Week USA Luxury Designer Runway Show at the South Shore Cultural Center on Saturday February 25th. “When you work in the creative world, you are never really sure when or if your works are impacting people, during these times we must use our talents to uplift and inspire each other in a positive way.”
The beautifully remodeled south-side venue is expecting several hundred participants during Black Fashion Week. Divine says “Fashion is the world of creativity, movement, and poetry combined in fabrics, accessories, and the person wearing the garment. Chicago has many beautiful, talented things and people and to conclude Black History Month on a positive note would be great.”
