"We applaud these communities for their outstanding commitment to speaking up for causes they believe in," Care2 CEO Randy Paynter said. "Civic engagement is the foundation for a healthy democracy. In this election year, it's important to remember that 'We the People' really do have the power, but only when we take action. Citizens in these communities know that extraordinary things happen when people who care take action together."

Care2 releases these findings in advance of the introduction of a hyper local platform, Care2 Local Petitions, in early February. This first-of-its-kind platform is designed to help community activists create more impact at a local level.

Online petitions have become a cornerstone of civic engagement and advocacy, exploding in popularity by getting results while governments remain deadlocked.  Care2 represents the largest online community for good – helping people start online petitions and support each other's campaigns.

Care2 members start and sign thousands of petitions each month on topics ranging from local school and traffic concerns, to cyber bulling, women's rights, and animal welfare, such as the Care2 petition that sparked an international uproar over the killing of Cecil the lion.

About Care2
Care2, the longest running petition site, is a social network of over 33 million activists standing together for good.  Care2 helps individuals start petitions and make a difference in their community while helping over 1500 nonprofit clients recruit more than 50 million prospective donors worldwide. Care2 petitions have received international acclaim for making a difference in human rights, women's rights and animal welfare, such as protecting African wildlife in response to the killing of Cecil the lion by an American trophy hunter.

Unlike other petition platforms, Care2 does not charge citizens for supporting their petitions.  In addition, as the world's largest values-aligned community for good, Care2 will only work with organizations that support a kinder, more inclusive and sustainable world.
