Like you, subject matter expert Michele Santiago has seen the word leadership defined numerous ways over the years. Is it charisma and positive thinking? Pinstripes and red power ties? Decisiveness? Is it all about the situation? Is it meant only for the chosen few who rise to the top? Or, is there a different story?

With over two decades of executive coaching, speaking, and most importantly, real-life, in-the-trenches business and life experiences, her view is radically different. Michele appreciates, and shares with listeners, that leadership is a moment-to-moment choice and not about title, tenure or position. Leadership is for everyone, every day. It's how we should live our life.

Michele has 15 plus years of management experience and over 25 years of sales and customer service experience in the luxury retail industry working for companies such as Hugo Boss, Neiman Marcus, Bachrach, Mercedes Benz, Audi and Dodge. She has also provided public relations, grant compliance/quality control, executive coaching, focused marketing and administrative staff service to small businesses and nonprofit organizations on a contractual basis for National Youth Advocate Program, Kenny’s SUV Limousine, Inc. Awakened Alternatives, Crossroads Coalition and Eric Wallace for State Senator Campaign under the consulting firm she created Preferred Elements, Inc.

In 2012, Michele made the decision to leave her corporate job to become a full time coach. Her compassion for serving the community coupled with her passion for helping others live their lives with purpose was the driving force behind her decision to pursue a career that she was passionate about waking up for every morning. Michele Santiago Coaching was launched. Though motivational interviewing, her clients are coached in identifying what they truly want in their lives. Michele assists clients in identifying life goals, recognizing barriers that prevent them from achieving those goals and guide them in creating an action plan to reaching their goals resulting in her clients being empowered to pay it forward, thus emerging as personal leaders in their homes and communities.

Michele earned her life coach certification through International Coaching Science Research Institute (ICS). Michele has also attended Moraine Valley Community College and is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Arts degree in Organizational Development and Leadership at DePaul University and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Human Development Training/Christian Counseling from Liberty Christian University.

Michele is a living testament to the affirmation, “It’s not where you’re from but where you’re going that counts”. Overcoming social stigmas and statistics placed on teen mothers from disenfranchised communities, her life and professional career has served as a ladder of success affording her opportunities from being the first African American female to sell luxury vehicles in the Midwest for a global auto manufacturer to successfully advocating for the civil rights of youth in the educational system.

Social responsibility is the driving force behind Michele’s passion for volunteer and missions work. She has served and coordinated domestic and international mission projects, served as a liaison for ministries, nonprofits to local and state government and collaborating organizations. It’s been said that her ability to adapt and to synthesize solutions have proven to be an asset both with the domestic and international community. Her most recent labor love is the launching of her blog and accompanying social media page “Gladiator Moms”. This online community is dedicated to empowering individuals by offering advice, resources and tools to assist them in living life with purpose and to the fullest.

Michele is married to Jose “Jake” Santiago and the mother to three gifted children, David (28), Sarah (21) and Miles (18) and they currently reside in Westmont, IL. A lifetime learner, Michele enjoys spending time with mentors and those she can glean from. She has a love for the arts and enjoys dancing, reading, theater, traveling and paying acts of kindness forward.

“The exhilarating feeling in the world is the discovery of self. The most rewarding is empowering others to do the same.” ~ Michele Santiago
