Black Votes Delivered For Quinn While White Downstate Voters Dropped Quinn
I am looking at the actual election results which show that Bruce Rauner would have still won the election even without the Black votes he got from the Black community - and the Black vote went overwhelmingly to Governor Quinn so the Black grassroots outreach efforts on Quinn's behalf really delivered for Quinn - but White downstate Democratic and other voters made a conscious decision when they voted for Senator Dick Durbin at the top of the ballot and Jesse White for Secretary Of State BUT purposely passed over Quinn and voted for Bruce Rauner and other Republicans on the ballot.
I know that it was reported early in the campaign that the election would be decided by the margin of the Black vote in Cook and County and Chicago but the final days of the election AND the actual election results prove that the Black vote while strong for Quinn did not make the difference - it was instead the White downstate voters who AGAIN voted for Senator Durbin at the top of the ballot and the very next choice was for Governor and those downstate voters picked Durbin and White and purposely passed over Quinn and other Democrats on the Democratic slate!! So those Black leaders who came together for Quinn can know by the overwhelming Black vote for Quinn that their outreach produced for Quinn.
I don't know what happened downstate that caused so many Democratic voters to vote for Durbin and White and not vote for Quinn after all the high profile Democratic leaders who came to town and campaigned more for Quinn's re-election than Durbin's but the final election numbers don't lie so in the end the Democratic downstate VOTERS made the conscious choice to abandon Quinn and voted for Rauner.
