Politifact Corrects Rauner Legionnaires Excuse As Editorial Slams His Failed Leadership
Chicago, IL – The Better Government Association and Politifact poked holes in Bruce Rauner’s desperate excuse for the Quincy Legionnaires outbreaks while an Alton Telegraph editorial slammed his failed leadership of the Veterans’ Home.
The state must do more. It has compounded the potential for problems by trying to convince itself the risk is not as great as it really is and by — at least in the most recent crisis — taking almost a week to react to a warning given to the state public health director.
The governor’s statement glosses over the reality that any such contamination is likely present at low and non-threatening levels. The use of the word “most” is also questionable since there’s no real quantifiable evidence.
“Bruce Rauner fatally mismanaged the Legionnaires crisis in Quincy and his flimsy excuses are quickly falling apart,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “It shouldn’t take fact checks and editorials for Rauner to take responsibility for the crisis that took the lives of 13 Illinoisans on his watch.”
