Have been away from the site for a while, but have still been reading though not able to reply to blog posts. However, today, I read Freeman Chari's post "Being Zimbabwean: From Bondage To Slavery" and wanted to add a short comment but was unable to. It was important for me to say that if he were looking at the slavemaster as enemy, then it is imperative that Zimbabweans who have less standing, property, money, and everything else see themselves as ultimate "human beings" for they must never loose sight of their own humanity. This is has always been the need of a slavemaster, that the slave forget who s/he is. Freeman may feel that it is easy for us here in the U.S. which appears to be the lap of luxury to speak with such resolve. Yet, as we have and continue to be faced with choosing to go mad or stay sane, we are more than qualified to offer advise on how to survive in the face of disaster.
We Africans all, must remember our own stories and honor our own ancestors and never loose sight of who was planted in the garden of eden to spread knowledge and life throughout the rest of the world...we Africans all...no matter where we are or under what conditions we may be living under in whatever part of the world must never forget who we are and from where we come. Those who do less will not prosper long.
