Khalif Khalifah……..- News Analysis….Part OneThe RNA, Republic of New Afrika, has been very much on the minds of the general U. S. population in recent months. This is mainly because of the aborted “Brinks robbery” in Nyack, NY in the fall of 1981. But the strains of thoughts about the “New Afrikans” who actually moved on to the territory they are claiming to establish a totally independent, sovereign “republic [in North America] have captured the imagination, pro or con, of Blacks and Whites since August of 1971, when an attempt by the state of Mississippi, with U. S. marshals, was made to “stamp them out,” resulted in the death of a state trooper and the wounding of several others. As NY police and the FBI turned up suspects in what is described by the suspects to have been an “expropriation” some turned out to be avowed, known citizens of “The Republic of New Afrika.” And no doubt, as such, the U. S. government as well as knowledgeable individuals, were sure that this “expropriation attempt” would be used by the U. S. to continue its efforts to destroy the RNA, which from indications in the Black nationalist communities in the U. S. is growing in influence and power. The growth is despite (some say because of) the fact that, as a consequence of the 1971 shoot out, 11 of it’s members were [unjustly] sentenced to life in prison; and its (RNA Provisional President, I. Obadele, also jailed for 5 years. At least four of the suspects [in the brinks expropriation], currently on trial for criminal conspiracy in federal court in NYC, have demanded to be treated as “political prisoners” who were captured as a result of actions they were carrying out in “armed resistance to the United States legal oppression of its Afrikan population.”The essence of the legality of the RNA claim for separation of Blacks who identify with their objectives (establishing a new nation), is that when Black chattel slaves were freed in the U. S., back in 1865, the right to decide their own destiny were denied hem: the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments were enacted by the U. S. Congress as legal attempt, under U. S. laws, to enfranchise the freed Black people who were brought to the continent against their free will over a period of 400 years. The RNA contends that “you can’t be free if someone lets you be free” [so said Brother Preston Wilcox, of Afram Associates). In other words, Blacks in America will not be free until they have the right to decide whether they want to be citizens here of elsewhere. They base these assertions on international law, as related to the occupation of a land by the resident majority of a particular people. The RNA has also sued in U. S. Counts for the entitlement of this right.[END PART ONE – PART TWO WILL BE PUBLISHED AFTER THE FUNERAL OF Dr. Obadele, who died on January 18, 1010. IMARI OBADELE WAS CO-FOUNDER AND PRESIDENTOF THE REPUBLIC OF NEW AFRIKA & N’COBRA AS WELL ASAUTHOR OF SEVERAL DOZEN BOOKSBy H. Khalif KhalifahSOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, VIRGINIA – A legend in his own time, Dr. Imari Abubakari Obadele, a Co-Founding President of the Republic of New Afrika and N’COBRA, two of the signature Black organizations of the 20th Century, in North America has transitioned. The announcement was made on January 19, 2010 by the Chairman of the PCC (Peoples Citizen Council) of the Republic of New Afrika. Dr Obadele will be recorded in History Among the constellation of Freedom bound Black people who never gave in or gave up to recapture everything about Afrikan people that was Stolen, Lost of compromised by those who think the best avenue to Freedom, Justice and Equality is being comfortable enough with the confines of the White Supremacist based system that was founded on Black blood, sweat, tears and brains, to be equal within. It is fairly well known about the great formations Dr.Obadele founded: The Republic of New Afrika and N’COBRA (The National Coalition of Blacks For Reparations in America. No doubt, members of the two formation, that are still very actively struggling to hold firm to the principles and standards that were instilled into them in 1968 and 1987 respectively; BUT what is not so well known is the sheer, total impact his life and work had on Black individuals who were never members of both, or either of the organizations. As one of my Mentors told me that the Undaunted Carlos A. Cooks said about him, many whose lives Dr. Obadele positively impacted “do not carry the card, but they have the heart!”I will not venture to use anyone as an example save myself. I am yet to become a “card carrying” member of the RNA” but only because I was advised by someone in position to wisely advise me not to become one. For after reading a little out of print book called “Foundations of the Black Nation,” this book gave me practical use and application, not only for my faith and belief in the Teachings of The Honorable Elijah Muhammad, but my budding skills as a journalist, would-be publisher. So with my Spirituality firmly intact via the NOI, I went to work. Dr. Imari A. Obadele was a Role Model that was destined to also become a Mentor in Independent Institutions for Nation Building. After a successful career as a Publisher, I was of a mind to do more than just cover the stories about Liberation Struggle of Black people. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad had transitioned several years prior, but the opportunity to work day to day, week to week, month to month, or year to year, or whatever the case may be necessary to get the job done, I joined N’COBRA primarily because Dr. Imari A. Obadele was there.Dr. Obadele had been in poor health in recent years: so after I assumed a different vantage point vs N’COBRA, early in this century, the closeness with him waned. He has been missed in my life over the prior few years; now no doubt his missing will be with the mixed emotion of pain of his passing; and unbridled appreciation for having the opportunity to work in formation with him for some ten years of my lifeH.
