PEOPLE’S ORGANIZATION FOR PROGRESS MARCHES TO KEEP PRESSURE ON
REQUESTS FEDERAL INTERVENTION IN TRAYVON MARTIN,
REQUESTS MEETING WITH ATTY GENERAL!

On Saturday, August 3rd, the People’s Organization for Progress will host its third march and rally to condemn the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the killing of Trayvon Martin and continue to press for a full federal investigation of the case and of the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law that created the climate for the incident to take place.
Participants will rally at the corner of Broad and Market Streets, downtown Newark at 12 noon and will then march to the Federal Building downtown Newark.
In the aftermath of the Zimmerman acquittal, POP hosted two large rallies that drew hundreds of people to downtown to protest the verdict. They later participated in the 100 Cities protest sponsored by the National Action Network that also took place at Newark’s federal building.
“It’s about keeping the pressure on,” says POP chairman Lawrence Hamm, pointedly…
As the organizers gear up for the Saturday rally, they have  also formally made their demand to U.S. Justice Department calling for a full federal investigation into the Trayvon Martin case.
In letters to US Attorney General Eric Holder and to the Justice Department’s area office, the organization plainly demanded that “your department file federal civil rights and other pertinent federal charges against George Zimmerman.”
The organization has also requested a meeting with the Justice Department’s area representative, Paul Fishman, and other leaders to be briefed on the status of the investigation as soon as possible.
