For All Points-Of-The-View.
On Saturday, March 3rd, Orange Councilwoman Donna K. Williams will travel to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to participate in a massive grassroots canvassing campaign against National Rifle Association-backed Republican Congressman Lloyd Smucker.
The effort is being called ‘Lancaster Stands Up’ (LSU). Smucker has received $221, 736 in NRA campaign funds, more campaign funds than anyone else sitting in Congress!
LSU is seeking to defeat Smucker and replace him with grassroots Democratic candidate Jess King. Democrats from as far away as New York City are mobilized to participate in the major pitch to unseat Smucker. (www.Lancasterstandsup.org)
“For anyone asking ‘Why are going to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to do this?’ we answer, ‘Why isn’t everyone going’?
“The time has come for people of goodwill to come together and do all that they can get a handle on this senseless violence,” she said passionately.
The recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida, where 17 high school students were slain, has generated some of the broadest calls for Gun Control Reform in recent years. Those calls have also raised the scrutiny of the lobbying power of the NRA.
Although Orange, NJ is one of Essex County’s smallest communities, it is no stranger to gun violence. Williams has been a strong anti-violence voice in her community and has participated in anti-violence rallies hosted by the Newark AntiViolence Coalition in neighboring Newark. She is a supporter of Governor Murphy’s call for a full interstate regional strategy to combat the flow of illegal guns into communities like Orange in the Greater Newark area…
